COLLEGE PARK — The Annapolis boys basketball team has been the beneficiary of momentum-changing baskets to end quarters throughout the season. The Panthers were on the wrong end of one against Walt Whitman Thursday night.

Riley Shaver’s 3-pointer to close the third quarter sparked a 9-0 run that broke a 36-36 tie, and the Vikings (21-6) closed the game by shooting 92 percent (12 for 13) from the foul line in the fourth, as Whitman defeated the Panthers in a Class 4A state semifinal, 59-48, at Comcast Center.
