On a friday night, December 23rd 2011, the eve of Christmas eve the NPAC Redhawks 14 and under team took home a 1st place trophy over a Memphis Tiger team who I thought hung around to keep the game competitive. The end score was 48 to 39 with the game being a lot closer than that. The Redhawks had some bad offensive possessions that lead to turnovers from the point guard spot. The Tigers were able to capitalize off those possessions and significantly out rebounded the Redhawks by a seemingly double-digit margin. But the Redhawks were able to get themselves together relied on the key perimeter play of Kahari “KJ” Harvey. He hit three 3 pointers to bring them back to a comfortable lead and had a 2 layups to further the lead to 5 with 43 seconds left. The Tigers turned the ball over twice down the stretch and the Redhawks sealed the game with free throws to end the contest with a 9 point lead. KJ’s perimeter play was very much needed as Kerry Love was not in attendance of the game. The extra scoring came from Brandon Brown who hit key shots in the beginning of the game, but it was Kahari’s play that sealed the victory. Brandon Brown lead the game with 20 points and Kahari Harvey followed with 18 points.
Congratulations on the Redhawk Christmas Classic 14 and under team.
