4. Sentinel girls run to sectionals, state
Maggie Arndt and Annie Carlson guided the girls varsity cross country team to strong showings in the regional, sectional and state races. Arndt, the Sentinels’ most consistent performer and the team’s only senior, ended her high school career on a high note, finishing in the top 10 at both regionals and sectionals. She then came in 78th at the state finals in Peoria. Carlson, a sophomore in her first season on the varsity team, was Westmont’s breakout performer, taking fifth at the regional. The duo helped the team take second at regional, fourth at sectional and 21st at state. With six runners set to return next season, the Sentinels are primed to make another run to state next season.
5. Sarah Bayne qualifies for golf sectional
Westmont sophomore golfer Sarah Bayne shined during October’s regional tournament. She shot a 106 and was the only member of the Sentinels’ girls golf team to qualify for the sectional tourney.
