Lincoln-Way Central 10, Oak Lawn 0: Winning pitcher Brad Bass fanned five over 51/3 scoreless innings to lift Lincoln-Way Central (1-0) in its opener. Cam Post went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Kevin Mampe walked three times and scored three runs.
Minooka 9, Providence 1: Ben Salvador had two hits and Mike Madej hit a run-scoring double for Providence (1-1).
St. Rita 10, Benet 3: Nick Goldsmith (1-for-2) smashed a three-run home run while Jake Shepski (2-for-3) hit a homer and knocked in two runs for St. Rita (6-0). Mike Costanzo (2-0) picked up the win, striking out 12 and scattering five hits in five innings of work.
T.F. South 1, Thornwood 0: Kyle Hallverg struck out 12 while James Macklin knocked in the only run for T.F. South (2-1).
Thornridge 10, T.F. North 1: Jorian Tucker struck out 10 and walked one to propel Thornridge (1-0).
Softball
Lincoln-Way West 6, Joliet West 2: Morghan Dieringer fanned 10, and Anna Ryan (2-for-2, double) and Amanda Ruskowsky (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led the way at the plate for Lincoln-Way West.
Girls Soccer
Lincoln-Way East 3, Marian Catholic 0: Jill Kilrea fueled the attack with a goal and an assist as Lincoln-Way East captured the consolation title in the Windy City Classic. Caroline Kilrea and Jessica Racja each added a goal and Samantha Fiorella recorded two assists.
Lincoln-Way West 1, Tinley Park 0: Emily Wyskiel recorded a goal to power Lincoln-Way West (3-1) to the fifth-place finish at the Windy City Classic.
Plainfield South 4, Joliet West 1: Kelsey Pruett notched a hat trick, and Kaylee DeVivo added a goal for Plainfield South (1-2-1).
Boys Tennis
At Marian Catholic: Kevin Kwok won at No. 2 singles and teamed up with Chuck Helsel to win No. 2 doubles in a 5-0 victory against Providence, and claimed a No. 1 singles match in a 5-0 win over Shepard.
Badminton
At Hersey: Lincoln-Way West finished third at the Hersey Invite on the strength of Beth Heise and Hannah Sigrist’s second-place finish at No. 1 doubles, and Stephanie McDonald’s third-place finish at No. 1 singles.
College Baseball
Grand Canyon 12, Chicago State 4: Chicago State (9-12, 0-2 Western Athletic Conference) rallied from a 7-0 deficit to pull to within 7-5, but couldn’t overcome Grand Canyon. Stefan Panayiotou hit his first career home run in the loss.
Joliet Junior College 6-12, DuPage 0-11: Josh Jimenez tossed a shutout for Joliet Junior College (11-8) in Game 1, striking out nine and surrendering five hits. Nick Fleischauer had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs in the opener. Jose Mendoza got the win in Game 2, and Alex Bebar (3-for-5, 4 RBI) and Tyler Thorson (3 hits, 3 RBI) contributed at the plate.
College Softball
Indianapolis 12-6, Lewis 0-0: Chase Machain had three of Lewis’ eight hits over two games. The Flyers fell to 9-4 overall and 3-7 in Great Lakes Valley play.
Men’s College Tennis
Creighton 6, Chicago State 1: Junior Sergiu Muresan defeated Creighton’s Elliot Baker 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 for the only point for Chicago State (3-17).
