High school sports roundup: Millville girls lacrosse edges Southern Regional

Millville High School girls lacrosse team got three second half goals apiece from Megan Hoffman, Corrine Etter and Abby Daigle to lead a comeback win over Southern Regional on Friday.

Southern led 9-6 at halftime. Millville outscored the Rams 11-6 in the second half to improve to 7-3.

Daigle’s goal with 3 minutes, 28 seconds remaining in the game was the difference maker, giving Millville a 16-13 lead at the time.

Hoffman had a big game, scoring six goals and adding three assists. Etter scored five goals with three assists and Daigle added four goals.

Southern’s Allison Spaschak led all scorers with seven goals.

No. 9 Middle Township 5

Middle Township hosted West Deptford and lost a tough game against one of the top teams in South Jersey Group I.

Jack Denis scored two goals and added an assist, and Alex Terenik had a goal and assist. Tommy Williams made 14 saves in the loss.

Joey Diaco led West Deptford with three goals and an assist.

Middle is No. 9 in The Press Elite 11.

Roberto Rivera pitched a complete game, allowing one run on five hits and three walks, striking out 14. Rivera had a pair of doubled for the Bolts as well. Buddy Kennedy doubled in the win.

Waterford Union (Wis.) 10,

Wildwood 8, 8 inn.

Waterford scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-7 lead, but Wildwood tied it up in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Waterford tacked on two more in the eighth and won in a game played in Orlando, Fla.

Brendan Bean went 2-for-4 with a double for the Warriors. Anthony Korobellis scored three runs and Jose Valetin had three RBIs.

No. 11 Pinelands Regional 12,

Brick Township 5

Pinelands, the top seed in the Ocean County Tournament, won its first-round game on Friday, beating 16th seeded Brick Township.

Corinne Huber went 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs. Emma Neuweiler and Kurstin Binshedler had two hits apiece for Pinelands.

Naomi Stas homered, drove in two runs and scored three times. She also picked up her 10th win of the season, striking out six.

Pinelands is No. 11 in The Press Elite 11.

Toms River 4

Barnegat, the 14th seed in the Ocean County Tournament, upset No. 3 Toms River East on Friday.

Marissa Stadtmauer pitched a complete game, striking out one. She was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the win.

Emma Lloyd was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Kerry Butler and Lauryn Geduldick had a pair of hits each.

Barnegat used a big second inning to jump out in front of Toms River East. Lloyd, Geduldick and Stadtmauer hit consecutive RBI singles to make it a 4-1 game.

The 16-team tournament has games scheduled at scattered dates. Barnegat will play Jackson Memorial next, but a time hasn’t been scheduled yet.
