Game time for high school sports is quickly approaching, and the West Hartford News, New Haven Register, Register Citizen and Middletown Press are gearing up for the start of the season with the launch of a dedicated high school sports website.

Combining the reach of the New Haven Register, Middletown Press, Register Citizen of Torrington and eight weekly groups, including the West Hartford News, www.GameTimeCT.com possesses a coverage area of 78 high schools in 10 of the state’s 11 conferences.

Sean Patrick Bowley, who has spent the past nine years as a lead high school sports reporter and sports producer for the Hearst Connecticut Media Group, and specifically the Connecticut Post, has been hired as editor of GameTimeCT.com, which will launch prior to the fall season.

“We’re excited to have Sean join our team,”Digital First Media’s Connecticut Group Sports Editor Sean Barker said. “His informative and entertaing digital story telling and unmatched presence on social media made him the perfect choice for this position. Adding Sean to a talented and veteran group that includes Joe Morelli, Dan Nowak, Mike Pucci, Jimmy Zanor, Mary Albl, Peter Paguaga, Henry Chisholm and Peter Wallace, emphasizes our commitment to high school sports coverage.”

A 13-year award-winning veteran sports reporter and editor, Bowley was sports editor of Elm City Newspapers and the Register-Citizen of Torrington from 2000-2004. A Syracuse University alum, Bowley began his career covering college athletics for the school’s prestigious student newspaper, The Daily Orange.

The site, which will also have an i-Phone and i-Pad app, will give users the ability to view content broken down by individual sports, conferences and schools. GameTimeCT.com will use curation and partnerships to cover other areas of the state, as well as provide coverage for events and issues that have state-wide interest.

“We’re very proud of our longstanding high school sports coverage,” Barker said. “The New Haven Register has presented an All-State football team since 1933, an All-State basketball team since 1949 and administered many of the state polls as far back as 1961. The Register Citizen covered some of the first high school championship games in the state, back in the 1920s when Torrington and Litchfield both had powerhouse programs. Middletown plays host to several state championship events and the area has a rich winning tradition at the scholastic level.

“We are very excited to launch GameTimeCT.com and continue to expand and enhance our high school sports coverage.”
