Eric Klassen, Redmond diving

Klassen, a senior, appears to be peaking at the right time as the Class 4A state meet nears. He won the KingCo state qualifying meet with a personal-record 443.40 points — more than 60 points better than the second-place finisher. “He is a positive leader who includes everyone, sets a good example and understands what it means to be part of a team,” coach Julie Barashkoff said.

Olivia Bannerot, Enumclaw gymnastics

It was a banner night for Bannerot as she recorded a career-best 38.45 all-around score in a four-way meet last week. The stellar senior swept all four events with impressive scores — 9.7 on the uneven bars, 9.65 on balance beam, 9.6 on floor exercise and 9.5 on vault. “Olivia had an awesome meet,” coach Ben Skipworth said. “We have been working really hard on her bar routine and 9.7 shows it!”

To stay in the WesCo 4A South race, coach Carl Wilkins’ team needed to come up with a rare victory over Edmonds-Woodway, which had not lost a division match since January 2010. But the Marauders were up for the challenge, pulling away for a 40-27 victory after leading by just three points with three bouts remaining.
