Mount Carmel wins pair: Mount Carmel improved to 4-0 by beating Glenbard East 5-2 and Lincoln-Way East 9-2 at Chicago State. Dave Dobrinich drove in two runs and Ako Thomas was 2-for-3 with a double and a run in the opener for the Caravan, while Richard Fordon (1-0) struck out four in five innings. Malik Carpenter was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBI, Greg Pitts went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Nelson Munoz (1-0) pitched five shutout innings in the nightcap for Mount Carmel (4-0). Lincoln-Way East (1-1) also lost 13-2 to Glenbard East.

Lemont 3, Lockport 1: Lemont beat Lockport in the SSC vs. SWSC Conference Challenge at Plunkett Park in Elmhurst. Jake Stanton had an RBI double for Lockport (2-3).

College Baseball

St. Francis 13, Calumet 3: David Kuhne was 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as St. Francis (15-12, 5-0 Chicagoland Collegiate) beat Calumet for its seventh straight win. Chris Blatti (Joliet Catholic) moved to 4-2 with the victory.

Joliet 6-9, Kishwaukee 3-3: Kevin Ganzer was 3-for-3 and Jeff Pattison went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the opener as Joliet won twice at home. TJ Condon was 3-for-4 with two doubles in Game 2 for the Wolves (13-8), who have won 10 in a row. Matt DeFraw and Thomas Goodyear were the winning pitchers.

South Suburban 5-4, Rock Valley 4-5: Antonio Majostov (3-0) got the win in the opener for South Suburban (8-8) and Cody Moskovsky was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Bobby Morgan went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Game 2 for the Bulldogs.

St. Joseph’s 11-2, Lewis 2-4: Kendall Paluch (Joliet Catholic) pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap to improve to 1-4 as Lewis (11-10, 5-4) earned a Great Lakes Valley Conference split on the road. Ben Albano’s two-run homer broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning. Jake Murray hit a two-run homer for Lewis in Game 1.

College Softball

St. Francis 6-2, Cardinal Stritch 2-8: Natalie Ward (Marian Catholic) drove in three runs and Caitlyn Bilandis (Reavis) earned the win in the opener as St. Francis (6-8, 1-1) split a CCAC doubleheader at home.

College Track Field

Lewis Marchildon wins heptathlon: Lewis’ Megan Marchildon won the Ashley Nally Heptathlon at Northwest Missouri State with a career-best score of 4,963 points, which ranks third in the nation.

Lewis’ Harkness is runner-up in decathlon: Jared Harkness of Lewis scored 6,436 points to finish second in the Herschel Neil Decathlon at Northwest Missouri State.
