MBL ’22 Week 4 Recap

We had some playoff energy in the gym for Week 4! Coaches and players brought their “A” games, resulting in high-scoring games, intense battles, and some major player performances. Congratulations to the teams that punched their golden ticket to the upcoming Sunday Championship games.

First up, Team Benjamin Duhart continued their dominance as they mounted a well-balanced 32-10 victory over Team Chris Chiozza and remained undefeated, entering the Championship game on Sunday, September 25th. The second middle school girl’s game was a much closer contest, with team Eudarius Jones securing their spot in the Championship with the 28-23 win over Team Kendra Mitchell and will face Team Benjamin Duhart.

  • 2027 Brooklyn Rhodes (Elmore Park) 7 points, 9 rebounds
  • 2028 A’zaria Blocker (Memphis School of Excellence Cordova) 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals
  • 2028 Malorrii Carter (Millington Central), 5 points, 7 rebounds
  • 2028 Jade Suggs (Woodland Presbyterian) 4 points, 7 rebounds
  • 2028 Jakilah Johnson (Granville T Woods) 6 points
  • 2027 Imari Pointer (Granville T Woods) 6 points, 2 rebounds

In the middle school boy’s division, Team Gregory James played Team Marcus Townsel much closer than the first match-up. Team Marcus Townsel remained undefeated with a near 47-42 victory. The second middle school boy’s game featured a rematch of Team Jarvis Morgan vs. Team Marcus Williams. Team Marcus Williams overcame a 20-point deficit in the first game to defeat Team Jarvis Morgan. The outcome wasn’t the same in the rematch as Team Jarvis Morgan cruised to a 73-49 win.

  • 2027 Christian Coleman (Collierville) 11 points, 18 rebounds

  • 2027 Breylan Walker (Cordova) 12 points, 3 rebounds
  • Cannon Hudson 12 points, 3 rebounds

In the boy’s high school division, we had two close games and one game that burst the clock with 101 points! Team Jevin Rankins squeezed out a 66-64 victory against Team Gene James. In the second high school game, Team Nicholas Perry scored 101 points in a twenty-minute running clock game against Team Cesar Gutierrez (84). In the day’s last match, Team Marquarius Hampton won 48-46 over Team Sam Beattie.
