After more than six months of waiting, college basketball is fully back, all the way here, arriving in earnest. Friday marks the start of the 2012-13 campaign, and so I’m bringing back on the newest CBS Sports analyst/TV host in Doug Gottlieb. We gab about the year ahead, but more specifically, the weekend of games in the wings. It feels great to have these conversations again. A little debate, a lot of hype for the hoops to come. Enjoy the pod and have a great weekend.

The ball is tipped:

  • From the beginning: Doug and I and have some niceties and catch up. He’s got the new TV show, by the way, which you can watch Monday-Friday at midnight ET on CBS Sports Network.
  • 4:30: An unprompted by smooth segue to discussing the A-10. I love it this year; Doug’s not as infatuated but certainly curious. Questions for him remain with Butler and Xavier more than others.
  • 6:50: Parrish: AVERT YOUR EARS. We aren’t completely head over heels with Memphis just yet.
  • 9:00: So, we’ve got all these games on boats. That a good thing? Is it a “lame gimmick”? Can it be when the U.S. Armed Forces are a major part of the proceedings?
  • 12:20: Defending college basketball. Huh? You’ll see what I mean. Or hear, rather.
  • 16:05: The one game each of us are looking forward to the most this weekend. This veers off into a weekend preview at large, too.
  • 28:15: Doug’s title pick is Arizona. I ask him to defend that to wrap up the pod, but before we get to that, a hearty conversation about what Missouri was and what they should be this year. I’ve got Mizzou winning it all.
