Edison junior center Mia Shannon led all first-day scorers in the Old Town Clovis Kiwanis New Years Classic at Buchanan with 31 points in the Tigers’ 64-37 rout of Chavez. Alexis Sperling‘s 21 points powered Buchanan past Sanger 55-38. Toni Edwards and Savannah Pates scored 18 and 13 points in Central’s 46-43 win over Orosi. The Division IV Cardinals, behind Bella Jiminez‘s 18 points, pressed the D-I Grizzlies to the wire with a 15-8 fourth-quarter surge. Heaven Lee and Desiree Harding combined for 40 points in Fresno’s 47-27 win over Kingsburg. Michelle Brown‘s 14 points guided Hoover past Caruthers 57-48. And Kody Steen‘s 13 points led balanced Lemoore in a 51-10 win over Reedley.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Central Valley Christian’s Tess Van Grouw was named first-team Medium Schools All-America by MaxPreps. The senior defensive specialist, who committed to Biola, had 627 digs, 49 aces and a 96.2% server percentage while leading the Cavaliers to a Central Section D-III title and CIF State D-III runner-up finish. Also on the team was Valley Christian-San Jose’s Maddie Dilfer, the Notre Dame-bound daughter of ex-Fresno State star Trent Dilfer.
