The Arizona Wildcats have landed their first recruit from Salesian High School in Los Angeles and wouldn’t mind if two more follow in the next couple of months.
Rodney Carr, a defensive back from Salesian, committed to the UA on Saturday and went public with his decision on Sunday. He’s rated as a three-star prospect by the Scout.com recruiting service and will likely play safety for the Wildcats.
Carr is a high school teammate of UA targets Jamardre Cobb and Marquis Ware. Both Cobb and Ware are four-star outside linebackers that the Wildcats covet.
The UA didn’t offer Carr to get to Cobb and Ware, but it shouldn’t hurt. Carr said the three teammates are “like brothers.”
“I’m going to tell them how much I love it there, but they’re going to do what they want to do,” Carr said.
Carr is the ninth member of the 2014 recruiting class for the UA and the fourth defensive player.
“I love the family they have there,” Carr said. “They’ve been liking me for a while and asked me to visit. I did and I loved everything about it.”
As a junior at Salesian, Carr had 92 tackles and an interception. On offense, he had 51 carries for 507 yards and four touchdowns as a running back. To view highlights of his 2012 season, click on the included YouTube link.
