Georgia middle schooler gets two scholarship offers

Chris Lewis received offers over the weekend from New Mexico and Memphis after coaches from those schools saw him play in an AAU tournament, Milton High coach David Boyd told the Atlanta paper.

These offers are unofficial. NCAA rules bar athletes from receiving scholarship offers in writing until Aug. 1 of their senior year.

The 6-7 forward averaged more than 20 points last season at Northwestern, which is across the street from Milton High.

Lewis is the son of Mo Lewis, a football star at the University of Georgia who went on to play 13 seasons in the NFL, ending in 2003.

“I think he has a great chance to start for us as a freshman, and that tells you a lot,” Boyd told the Journal-Constitution.

Boyd has coached Milton to two state Class AAAAA titles in the past three seasons. Milton finished this season 28-4 and No. 12 in the USA TODAY Super 25.
