Winter weather put a halt to most of the state’s high schools sports action on Saturday, but several big matchups took place on the ice and the hardwood, including a showdown between top-10 boys basketball teams.

The top-ranked Detroit Pershing boys basketball team used strong guard play to claim a six-point road win over No. 8 Cass Tech in MLive’s Detroit Game of the Week.

The sixth-ranked Saginaw Nouvel girls basketball team used pin-point perimeter shooting in its double-digit home win over Bay City John Glenn.

The Genesee girls basketball team overcame an early 13-point deficit to steal a road win over Burton Bentley.

The Grand Rapids West Catholic boys hockey team netted the game-winning goal with two seconds left in overtime to defeat Big Rapids for the East-West Showcase championship.

The fourth-ranked Hartland boys hockey team used a pair of goals from Austin Flores to claim a road win over No. 18 Muskegon Mona Shores.
