The wintry weather has wreaked havoc with local high school sports schedules.
With school out again on Thursday in Cleveland County, it doesn’t get any easier.
At present, all that is definitive is that Shelby’s basketball trek to East Burke, originally set for this past Tuesday, has been been moved to Saturday. The JV boys will tip off the action at 2 p.m. followed by the girls’ and boys’ varsity contests.
Crest has rescheduled its varsity twinbill at Chase from last Tuesday until Monday night. East Rutherford will play at Burns Monday as well.
No makeup date has been set for Draughn at Kings Mountain in basketball..
All other sporting events and starting times remain up in the air with one exception. The South Mountain Athletic Conference wrestling tournament will go on as planned Saturday at Crest High’s Ed Peeler Gymnasium.
Weigh-ins begin at 7:30 a.m. with the first match scheduled for 9 a.m. Nine teams are involved and championship/consolation competition will continue until completed.
Wrestling tournament tickets are $7 for the day – fans will be issued an armband which will allow them to re-enter the gym.
At present, Thursday’s Crest-Kings Mountain varsity basketball matchup will have to be re-scheduled at some point. Kings Mountain also had re-set a wrestling match at Draughn Thursday but that is now off the table as well.
On Friday, Shelby is still scheduled to host East Rutherford for a varsity basketball twinbill.
