Middle School Basketball Jamboree – County

Middle School Basketball Jamboree – County

If you’re a fan of middle school basketball then Southwind High School was the place to be on Saturday. A day packed with basketball from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. It was a great opportunity to see some the county’s best teams and players. For coaches it was an opportunity to test the waters with new players and get a pre-season look at opposing teams.

The format of the Jamboree, 10 minute halves with a running clock, only gives opposing coaches a glimpse without revealing too much. The outcomes of these games really didn’t matter much, but what did are the players that got an early chance to shine.

Some take-aways from the Jamboree:

Sydney Malone & Jaida Roper

[two_third last=”yes”]Malone and Roper will do some damage this season. Malone has good size and showed she can knock down shots  and finish in the paint through contact. Roper is a menace on defense, she attacks her opponent with speed and aggression. Once she makes the steal, she’ll make you pay by converting it into easy points. Roper is the most complete player I’ve seen this pre-season so far.

Jonathan Bins

[three_fourth last=”yes”]Bins will surprise a lot of people this season. Germantown Middle is loaded with good guards, so he may have to share time, but when he’s in the game look for him to score with a running floater or attacking the rim. [/three_fourth]

Jalen Fisher

[three_fourth last=”yes”]I had the opportunity to coach against and watch Fisher this past summer. His size, speed, and shooting ability creates match-up problems for any team. Fisher has the ability to carry a team, especially when the team is struggling on offense. Arlington Middle will depend heavy on Fisher this season.[/three_fourth]

Lakyia Parker

[three_fourth last=”yes”]I was truly impressed with Parker’s game. She has a polished game that most middle school players don’t possess. For her size, she has great handles and good range on her jump shot, which she displayed by knocking down 3 or 4 “tre-balls” in the Jamboree. I’m looking forward to following Parker this season.[/three_fourth]

Kameron “KJ” Hughes

[/one_fourth]

[three_fourth last=”yes”]Hughes is not a newcomer to the Memphis basketball scene. He’s been wreaking havoc on opposing team for years in the paint. His game grown with improved ball handling and shooting from the perimeter. You have only two options when Hughes gets the ball in the paint, let him score or foul him. Now, he has the ability to hurt you from outside. [/three_fourth]

Nathan Hoover

[three_fourth last=”yes”]Hoover is a perimeter threat, he can knock the long-range jump consistently. He has a nice frame which will allow him to shoot over smaller defenders with ease. Look for Hoover to fill up the stat sheets this season.[/three_fourth]
