You know you’re a force when your own school has backup backboards on reserve — just in case you do something like this.

First-year Northern Arizona coach Jack Murphy has nabbed quite the beastly recruit in 6-foot-8 Ako Kaluna. The West Ranch High (Santa Clarita, Calif.) product is a senior who will likely be the biggest threat to college rims when he begins playing D-I ball next season. Through the first few games of his senior year, Kaluna’s putting up 19.3 points and 14.7 rebounds per game.

The dunk above came during a the quarterfinal of a tournament in Santa Monica, Calif., on Thursday. Naturally, the tourney had to be postponed until officials could figure out when and where the rest of it could be played. The Los Angeles Times notes this is the second glass-smash Kaluna’s laid waste to in his career; he did it last season as well.

College basketball rarely sees broken backboards these days, but maybe Kaluna can bring them back into vogue in the coming years. By the way, a cool display of teamwork could be seen when, after the destruction, Kaluna’s compadres went all CSI through his mane to make sure the shards were clear of his hair and body.
